Project Overview

We were referred to the Owner’s Representative for Descanso Gardens to consult on the adaptive re-use of a space being transformed into the restaurant, the Farmhouse.

The main dining area featured an open-plan layout with high ceilings and exposed crossbeams. While pendant speakers were initially considered, we instead designed a U-shaped speaker layout with speakers concealed atop the architectural coves, directing sound evenly throughout the room. This approach created a more immersive audio experience while preserving the clean, uncluttered ceiling aesthetic.

Sonance commercial speakers were paired with a Symetrix wall controller at the front of house, allowing staff simple and intuitive zone control.

The patio was divided into three independently controlled audio zones, providing flexibility for private events and partial venue buyouts.

The equipment rack was located in the back-of-house MDF room, where a Symetrix Prism 8×8 DSP processor powered a LEA Professional Connect 354 amplifier. Custom speaker presets, or tunings, were loaded into the amplifier’s DSP to optimize performance and achieve the best possible sound quality throughout the space.
